Binance the popular crypto exchange recently recruited a new chief financial officer with a mountain of experience in initial public offerings.

The executive in question is Wei Zhou, who is at current a vice chairman of the well known dating platform Grindr, Wei Zhou has over 15 years of executive experience behind him. Wei Zhou began his career at subsidiary of Goldman Sachs based in Hong Kong where his main focus was on investment banking.

As a graduate of the university of Harvard, he received his bachelor’s degree in east Asian studies and economics. Wei Zhou has a particular expertise in scaling business operations for companies in the United States as well as in China. Wei Zhou also has served as a CFO at a Chinese advertising firm called Charm Communications and one of China’s biggest online recruitment platforms Zhaopin.com. Wei Zhou managed to lead these companies into getting successfully listed on NASDAQ and the NYSE respectively.

His hiring at the crypto exchange has led many to speculate that, Binance might be preparing for an initial public offering. The cryptocurrency exchange’s CEO however has recently denied this, whilst not dismissing the fact that the crypto sector could definitely benefit from this fundraising model.

A hiring of an ex investing firm employee like Wei Zhou is not the first time and wont be the last time that a crypto company has recruited someone with experience from our traditional finance sectors. Earlier this month, a crypto startup based in japan called FXcoin announced they had recruited a ex employee of Deutsche Bank, as the companies latest senior strategist. The founder of startup Tomoo Oshi also had a background in the traditional finance sector.
